Uintah Adventure Day 1

Yay! It's the June family camp-out! Every June Jason's family goes camping together. We try to get everyone up there for at least a couple days. I always look forward to it. My kids get filthy, but they have so much fun playing in the dirt with their cousins. And, the fact that we get no TV or cell phone coverage makes it relaxing for me. There is no use stressing over anything that needs to be done at home, because there is nothing you can do from up there! Also, I was extra excited this year because this was the first year we got to use the camper! My 10-year old self would be disgusted--'that's not real camping!'--but the adult version is happy to have a toilet and a bed. :)
So, Wednesday we met Jason and David in Kamas and convoyed up to the Uintahs.
On the way I realized I had forgotten my camera! UGH! And my boots--at least I was wearing tennis shoes instead of sandals--and a couple other little things that I could live without, but it was very annoying!
When we got to our camping spot Jason and David got the camper all set up and level and the kids stretched their legs after a long car ride. Then Jason put his new chain saw to good use. We decided to eat dinner---I have never had steak and french fries when we were camping before, that was fun!---and then go for a ride in David's truck to look for deer. We didn't see a whole lot, but there were a couple does close enough for the kids to see, so that was fun. We were way up top when David turned down a muddy road and got stuck. I had not brought jackets for the kids, and I was still in my shorts... we didn't have a shovel or anything, so after trying to rock out of the hole Jason and David tried digging out the tires with their hands! They got kind-of cold and tired, and ultimately it didn't work. At one point David opened the door Brett was leaning against, and he fell out into the mud. When he got back in we took off his pants and shoes--thankfully his shirt was still clean--he was rather upset about being half naked, but it was dark by this time, and I convinced him that no one could see his underwear. Around 10:30 Jason and David decided to walk back to camp. After they left my kids started saying they needed to go to the bathroom. I really didn't want to get out in that sucking, soupy mud, so I had them pee out the window of the truck! I decided I could probably hold it until the guys got back and got us out. We tried to get some sleep.
I was watching the moon rise around 2:30 when Jason and David arrived with the truck and 4-wheeler. Jason was driving back and forth in an effort to smoosh down some of the mud, and he drove up on kind-of a little ledge and then slid sideways and got really STUCK! Worse than David. So, after some more digging--with a shovel this time at least!--and pushing they decided to try again in the morning. Jason climbed in David's truck with me and the kids, and David got into Jason's truck, and we tried to sleep. BUT, I really needed to pee. It was starting to get painful. I couldn't stick my butt out the window--David was in the truck behind us. I knew the second I stepped out of the truck I'd be in mud up to my ankles. I couldn't really ask Jason to carry me over to the snow--Devon would be screaming the entire time... Jason came up with the solution. I decided to put a soft-drink cup to good use, and empty it out the window. Not the most fabulous part of the ordeal, but you gotta do what you gotta do. So, feeling much better, I tried to find a position that was comfortable for me and a squirming toddler, and tried to get some sleep.
